The Beer
Several types of beer, including lambic, pils and white beer, contain added fruit juices or syrup to make fruit beers. Rodenbach Alexander, a mixed fermentation beer, falls into an entirely different category as it is based on Rodenbach Grand Cru.
This degustation beer contains 1/3 part young beer and 2/3 parts beer that has matured in an oak foeder for two years, steeped with the natural juices of ‘noorderkrieken’ cherries.
Without a doubt, with its uniquely balanced palate, fruity touches and complex finish this is one of the best sour ales from this Roeselare brewery, that specialises in this traditional beer type.
Rodenbach Alexander was created in 1986 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Rodenbach, co-founder of the brewery and ‘spiritual father’ of Rodenbach’s sour foeder beers.
Rodenbach Alexander is a member of the extended family of Rodenbach ‘sour ales’ that also comprises the accessible, light Rodenbach Fruitage, the refreshingly tart thirst quencher Rodenbach Classic plus three degustation beers: Rodenbach Grand Cru, Caractère Rouge and Vintage.
Brouwerij Rodenbach is a member of Swinkels Family Brewers which also comprises the Palm brewery.

Serving Glass
Rodenbach Alexander is served in the elegant, tulip-shaped tasting glass on a tall stem which allows the aromas to express themselves to the full.
Character, Tastes & Aromas
A well-balanced ‘sour ale’ with touches of fruit, wood, almond from the 'krieken' cherry pips and a complex finish not unlike a Burgundy.
Culinary
A successful pairing with foie gras, game such as venison or pheasant, patisserie or a yoghurt sorbet.
Keeping and Storage
This beer will keep in the bottle for 24 months and in the barrel it can be stored for 9 months. Rodenbach Alexander is brewed to drink in its prime and not to keep longer than the brewer advises.
Keep your bottles upright in a preferably dark, dry and cool place.
Availability
Bottle ✔ On Tap ✔
Available bottled (75cl) and on tap (20l kegs). As an icon of Belgian beer culture Rodenbach has always been exported, nowadays you will be able to pick this beer up in countries far beyond the Belgian borders.
A bit of beer trivia for you; when the Alexander was relaunched it was actually only available in the US, before being re-introduced to domestic market.
