Blonde Belgian Abbey Beer

The Beer

Every brewer knows that you cannot make beer without hops. And when it comes to that essential plant, only the best is good enough for the Leffe abbey beers. The brewery’s main focus for the Royale range is on the selection of the finest hops - hops determines the identity, character, taste and colour of each of these beers. The range is of a collection of unique degustation beers in which single hop varieties take centre stage.

Leffe Royale Whitbread Golding has an amazingly subtle bitterness accompanied by impressions of lemon and resins. Alongside this it has an exceptionally fruity taste.

The master brewer travelled the globe in search of the most suitable hop for this subtly bitter beer with its aromas of yellow fruits. His choice came down to three different hop varieties, including the Whitbread Golding, a noble hop variety from the Poperinge region in West Flanders. The light, resinous and citrusy taste of the hop dominates, in the subtlest possible way, the banana and vanilla tastes from the yeast.

The Leffe Royale selection also includes Cascade IPA, Mount Hood, Crystal and Mapuche. The brewery’s traditional range consists of Leffe Brune, Blonde, Triple, Ruby, Radieuse, Nectar and Bière de Noël.

Ingredients

Leffe Royale Whitbread Golding is brewed with water, yeast, malt, and three hop varieties.

Colour & Transparency

The beer takes on a coppery-blond colour in the glass covered by a snowy-white head.

    Serving Temperature

    5-7°C / 41-45°F

    Serving Glass

The Leffe Royale range of beers are served in an elegant chalice on a tall, engraved stem; its bowl-like shape allowing the aromas to develop to the full. The letter ‘L’, engraved at the bottom of the glass, makes sure that froth is continuously produced. This makes the head 'stay up' for longer.

      Character, Tastes & Aromas

Leffe Royale Whitbread Golding produces subtle, resinous hints of lemon that slowly overcome the taste of the yeast, coloured by banana and vanilla.

        Culinary

The refined citrus touches of Leffe Royale make a perfect pairing with shell fish and ham.

        Keeping and Storage

The beer will keep in the bottle for two years. Best stored in a cool (10-15°C/50-60°F) and dark place.
